First Real Post

So, never having written a blog before, I find myself thinking a LOT about what I want to write in here. For now, I'll just stick to the assignments.

One of the artists I posted earlier is Julie Ganser. I found her work on White Columns and HAD to check it out. She got her MFA from UW Madison, and lives in Sun Prairie, WI. (Which I also think is pretty cool)

She uses found objects, mostly plastic (like recyclable plastic water bottles). I especially like her pieces that use bubble wrap. I think it's neat that she's taken something as mundane (and AWESOME.) as bubble wrap, and made it into something completely different.

In her statement, she talks about her multi-layered works as commentary on the role of transparency in society. She beautifully combines elements of nature with the recycled objects, to create installations and pieces that remind me of old paperweights - glassy and colorful, often containing flowers or just cool shapes...

If you'd like to read an article about Ms. Ganser, I encourage you to visit http://host.madison.com/entertainment/arts_and_theatre/visual/article_6ca1f5b0-a7b4-11de-babf-001cc4c002e0.html This article is about her exhibit at the James Watrous Gallery in Madison in 2009.
